Western Md. Town Holding Winter Fest
OAKLAND, Md. (AP) -- The western Maryland town of Oakland is holding a winter festival despite a dearth of snow.
Winter Fest begins Friday and continues through Sunday in downtown Oakland.
There will be ice sculptures, ice bowling and horse-drawn sleigh rides, but visitors may not see much snow. The area averages 100 inches, but the nearby Wisp ski resort says only 73 inches of snow have fallen this winter, and most of that has melted.
The National Weather Service is forecasting a chance of snow showers late Saturday night, with a 40 percent chance on Sunday.
