Western Md. Suspect Called Police About Arsons
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Investigators say they got a break in a string of western Maryland arsons when a suspect in Williamsport called 911 to report that someone had tried to set fire to his trash can.
Charging documents obtained by The Herald-Mail say that a Washington County sheriff's deputy responded to the call and saw a stencil template lying near the trash cans.
Police say the same template had been used to paint a message on a neighborhood car, daring a local fire investigator to "catch me if you can."
The incident led to the arrest of Tyler Murray, 20. He was charged Tuesday with second-degree arson of three barns and three cars. Police suspect Tyler and three others in 34 other fires.
Murray's public defender didn't immediately return a call Thursday.
