Western Md. Prison Locked Down After Stabbing
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Maryland corrections officials say a prisoner has been stabbed at Roxbury Correctional Institution.
Maryland Public Safety and Correctional Services officials say the 32-year-old prisoner serving 19 years for drug crimes, assault and robbery was stabbed Friday morning at the medium-security prison that houses about 1,725 inmates south of Hagerstown.
The prisoner was conscious and alert when he was taken to an area hospital, but department spokeswoman Erin Julius says he will likely be returned to an infirmary at the prison as soon as Friday afternoon.
Officials believe only one other person was involved in the incident, but the prison is locked down while the stabbing is investigated.
