Western Md. Man Pleads Guilty To Setting 13 Fires

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Washington County prosecutors are recommending a 15-year prison sentence for a Williamsport man convicted of 13 arsons.

Tyler Murray, 21, pleaded guilty Tuesday to the second-degree arson charges and three counts of malicious destruction of property.

Prosecutors say he set the fires last spring as part of a thrill-seeking group of eight young men and women suspected in nearly 40 fires. Murray admitted he set fires that damaged eight vehicles, four barns and a garage.

His lawyer says he'll discuss the motivation for the crimes at sentencing, which hasn't been scheduled.

Prosecutors say they'll also seek restitution of more than $400,000.

Four other defendants have pleaded guilty in the case. They defendants are from Washington and Frederick counties and neighboring Pennsylvania.
