Western Md. Man Has Hearing On Kidnapping Charge
CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- A Frostburg man is heading to court in Cumberland on charges he beat and kidnapped his 71-year-old neighbor in a robbery attempt.
Jonathan Bittner's pretrial motions hearing is set for Tuesday afternoon.
The victim told police Bittner, 29, entered his home at 2:30 a.m. April 28 and beat him about the face and head while demanding cash.
Police say Bittner then forced the man into the victim's car, got behind the wheel and crashed it on Interstate 68.
They say Bittner fled, leaving the victim to drive the disabled car to a Cumberland exit. He was found by a passer-by, bleeding and dressed only in his underwear and a T-shirt.
