Western Md. Firefighter Hurt In Blaze Is Charged With Arson
CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say a volunteer firefighter who was found in his burning home in Midland has been charged with arson.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said Wednesday that 24-year-old Denzil Halbritter Jr. has also been charged with reckless endangerment. The Times-News of Cumberland reports that he was arrested this week after being released from the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center in Cumberland, where he was taken after the July 22 blaze.
He is being held on $150,000 bond.
Firefighters rescued Halbritter when he was found lying unconscious on the kitchen floor. He was treated for smoke inhalation.
Deputy state fire marshals say investigators and their dog team found several areas in the house when a liquid accelerant was poured and ignited.
