Western Md. Dems Focus On Winning Women's Votes
FLINTSTONE, Md. (AP) -- Western Maryland Democrats say they're mobilizing to get out the women's vote.
The Cumberland Times-News reports that Democrats from Allegany, Carroll, Garrett, Frederick and Washington counties met Saturday at the Rocky Gap resort near Cumberland.
Myrna Whitworth of Frederick County says that when women vote, Democrats historically win. So she says party members should talk up issues that resonate with women. Those issues typically include abortion rights and equal pay for equal work.
At another session, panelists including Montgomery County state Delegate Heather Mizeur discussed strategies for winning the November ballot questions on same-sex marriage and the Dream Act. The Dream Act would allow illegal immigrants to pay in-state college tuition under certain circumstances.
