Hagerstown Won't Fund Telework Center
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The Hagerstown City Council is refusing to take over a downtown telework center after federal funding expires March 31.
Council members voted Tuesday to close the center and eliminate two related city jobs, one full-time and one part-time.
The center is one of 14 in the Washington area that the General Services Administration is eliminating due to federal budget cuts.
The government opened the center in 1995 as an option to commuting to offices in the D.C. area 60 to 75 miles away.
City officials say the center's 25 work stations are used part-time by about two dozen people. The usage is the equivalent of nine full-time teleworkers.
