WEATHER BLOG: Another Heat Wave Begins; Temps Dip To 80s By Friday Due To Cold Front
The heat has arrived, once again.
We started our next heat wave. Our high hit 95 degrees at BWI-Marshall Sunday afternoon. We will only drop to the mid 70s overnight before going right back up to the mid 90s again Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday will be the hottest days this week before a cold front starts knocking temperatures back down again. Expect highs in the upper 90s mid week before dropping back to the 80s by Friday.
During this stretch, there are multiple chances to get some very needed rain. Our rainfall deficit is at 8.3" for the year. Unfortunately, a lot of our rain chances will also come with lightning.
Thunderstorms are scattered around the state right now. They will slowly die down Sunday night before another round gets underway again Monday. This is not the setup for widespread severe weather, but there could be a couple of these thunderstorms that build to the severe level (meaning hail 1" or larger, winds 58 mph or more and the possibility of a tornado).
Even though there could be a pop up thunderstorm on Tuesday, it will be a much quieter day on the radar. That is, before a new front moves our way later Wednesday with more thunderstorms and showers. The front will slowly try to get out of here on Thursday, eventually bringing drier air in behind it for the end of the week.
