Watch Carmelo Attempt To Set The World Record For High Fives
By Ross Kelly
Athletes and the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards go hand-in-hand. Unlike other awards shows, you never know what to expect when kids are at the helm. This year we got to see Derek Jeter slimed and Russell Wilson (and Ciara) dance. We even got more of the Currys (in addition to getting more Currys) as Steph and Riley made an appearance.
However the highlight of the night (for the snarky crowd) was Carmelo Anthony attempting to set a Guinness World Record for the most high-fives in 30 seconds. Athletes are always giving each other high-fives so this should be a piece of cake, right? GWR was even on hand to authenticate the record:
With hypeman Michael Strahan by his side Carmelo gave a valiant effort:
He started off strong but obviously heard the shot clock buzzer go off as he just stopped at the :06 mark. Apparently he didn't see the message on his shirt. Then he appears to give some fake hustle that Knicks fans can relate to by padding his stats with more high-fives after the outcome has already been decided.
But in the end, like so many of his jumpers, Melo came up short:
Finally, after it's announced that he failed to get the record, Melo throws his teammates (i.e. the kids) under the bus by calling their performance "Terrible. That's terrible. Terrible."
Looks like Carmelo's already in midseason form.
