Washington Post To Close Some Bureaus In Md., Va.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Washington Post may close six of its regional bureaus in Maryland and Virginia as office leases expire next year but will maintain bureaus in the state capitals.
Executive Editor Marcus Brauchli is leaving open the possibility of maintaining some suburban bureaus. In in a memo to the Post staff Thursday, he wrote that the newspaper may decide to lease smaller offices in some communities. He said the Post has more space than it can use in many places.
Brauchli announced the Post would maintain its current bureaus in Annapolis, Md., and Richmond, Va. He says the Post will maintain its staffing levels for the Washington suburbs as well, but it was not clear where those journalists would be based.
He says the changes would save money on office space.
