Washington National Cathedral Dean Resigns
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Episcopal Diocese of Washington says the dean of Washington National Cathedral is resigning his post.
The Very Rev. Samuel T. Lloyd III, who has been the cathedral's dean for more than six years, will leave Sept. 18 to return as priest-in-charge of Trinity Church, Copley Square in Boston.
The Rt. Rev. John Bryson Chane, bishop of the diocese, will serve as interim dean.
Lloyd established a congregation of regular Sunday morning worshipers in 2007. The group now includes about 1,000 members, and is one of the largest congregations in the diocese.
The cathedral hosted the funeral of former President Gerald Ford and the inaugural prayer service for President Barack Obama.
