Washington Monument Reopens After Power Failure

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The National Park Service says the Washington Monument has reopened after a power failure two days ago.

The agency announced Friday that the monument reopened at noon Friday. It was closed on Thursday and Friday morning after an electrical problem caused a power failure on Wednesday evening.

Officials say electricians and elevator technicians have tested the elevator's electrical system and don't believe it is subject to a similar power failure. However, technicians will stay at the monument until it closes at 10 p.m. as a precaution.
