War Of 1812 Conference To Be Held At Naval Academy
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- More than 200 people are expected to be in Annapolis to discuss the War of 1812.
The Capital of Annapolis reports scholars from England, Canada and the United States are coming to a conference on the war at the U.S. Naval Academy.
The conference begins Wednesday with a tour of an exhibit on the war at the school. Talks start Thursday morning and will include topics such as military strategy and the impact of the war on Native Americans.
Some historians see the 32-month war as England's last attempt to control its former colonies, and it's sometimes called the Second War of Independence. In Canada, however, the War of 1812 is seen as an attempted land grab by the U.S.
