Walters Art Museum Teams Up With 'Doodle 4 Google' Arts Contest For Kids
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Your child's art could soon be displayed amongst the masterpieces at the Walters Art Museum.
Monique Griego has more on the Google Doodle Contest and how your child can enter.
Google's home page banner is famous for morphing into illustrations that reflect that day in time. Millions log on and see it every day, and now Maryland kids will have the chance to have their art take over that prime piece of real estate.
Matt Fry, from the Walters Art Museum, says this year the museum is teaming up with Google for its "Doodle 4 Google" contest, which is open to kids nationwide.
"Kids K though 12 submit their version, redesign, of Google's now famous home page banner," Fry said.
This year's doodle theme is all about time travel.
"Imagine if you could go back in time. Where would you visit?" Fry said.
And if kids need inspiration for the theme, there's plenty at the Walters Art Museum.
"So you can see the Walters is 5,500 years of human creativity, so great inspiration to create their doodle," Fry said.
Past entries show just how creative kids can get.
The national winner receives a $30,000 scholarship, and of course their doodle will be on Google.
"I think kids would be surprised and happy to have doodles showcased on a national level," Fry said.
Among these other pieces, The Walters will also display the 10 best in Maryland in an upcoming exhibition.
"Even for kids in Maryland, for kids to have doodles displayed here at Walters will be a huge, huge fun project," Fry said.
The finalists will be chosen by a celebrity panel, including Katy Perry and Jordin Sparks.
