Elections typically make us focus on our differences. However, most of the time, we care about the same things. When we asked the voters about advice for the next governors, they couldn't wait to sound off.
"In the 21st century with the way the American economy and the way the American job market is going, what we need to do is let the people that make lots of money pay their taxes and get jobs for the working class and the middle class and rebuild that middle class before it disappears entirely," said one.
"Just make sure that kids can get to school safe, they have a good day, make sure kids get to class on time, make sure teachers are well taken care of," said one.
"Mr. Hogan, I would like to change the rain tax because I don't understand why would you want to pay for the rain when it falls down from the sky. It don't make any sense to me," a voter said.
"It's been a while since Maryland's had a Republican governor. It's always difficult when the executive branch and legislature are of opposing political parties but I like to think of myself as an optimist and I like to think there's enough goodwill left that we can work together and get some stuff done in the next four years," a voter said.
The inauguration takes place in January.
Larry Hogan will become Maryland's third Republican governor in the last 50 years.
