Voter Turnout: Potentially Record Breaking for Maryland
BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- This election may have brought out a record number of Marylanders. In some areas voting stretched well past 8 p.m. as people waited in some long lines.
"There's never been a line like this. I've voted here for twenty years. There's never been a line like this," said voter Gail Albert.
Tensions ran high with voters as the wait stretched for hours at Parkville High School.
"They have like one machine to scan all these people. It's ridiculous," said one voter.
"I would like to vote. I've been standing in line for two hours and I still have another line to go," said voter Jessica Williams.
In Baltimore City a few precincts opened late, including one in reservoir hill where an election judge left before the doors opened.
"We can't keep having these mishaps. Polls not opening on time," said city council candidate Leon Pinkett.
A record 877,000 Marylanders took advantage of early voting. Still those who waited were in it for the long haul.
"I've made my decision and we're in for it for the run," said voter Angie Thuman.
The State Elections Board predicts voter turnout around 75 to 80 percent, that would potentially break recent records.
