Victim's Family Asks For Help Solving I-97 Fatal Hit-And-Run
GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WJZ) -- A man was struck by a car and left to die on I-97. Now his family is asking for the public's help in finding the driver who is still on the loose. Monique Griego spoke with the victim's sister.
Police don't have a lot of leads, so the family is hoping someone will come forward with information.
Just after 3 a.m. Tuesday, a street sweeper truck on I-97 north lost control between Route 32 and Benfield Road. It overturned, ejecting both men riding inside. Wilmer "Rick" Borgmann, 50, landed in oncoming traffic and was hit by another vehicle. Borgmann didn't survive.
Police say the driver who hit him didn't stop.
"I'm angry, very angry that this person could be that cold and callous," said Borgmann's sister, Donna Rogers.
Rogers is hoping someone saw something that night.
Police believe Borgmann did survive the initial accident.
"The passenger was probably standing, maybe back on his feet attempting to get out of the road but was unable to do so before he was struck," said Greg Shipley, Maryland State Police.
Investigators say the driver had to have known they hit a person because they believe Borgmann was stuck on the hood of the car for around 200 feet before the driver was able to remove his body.
"I thought this person would come forward but obviously not," Rogers said.
Police don't have many leads but say the car who hit Borgmann should have severe damage to the hood, windshield and front grille.
"Our family's main concern is that this person is not on the streets," Rogers said.
The driver who was with Borgmann was also ejected but is expected to survive.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Maryland State Police.
