BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Members of the military and their families are being honored for their service Wednesday. Events throughout the country are being held to thank these vets for their commitment to our country.

Special ceremonies in Baltimore and Washington remind us that we need to honor those who serve our country---not just today but every day.
A parade through Baltimore City saluted our country's veterans and express gratitude for their service.
"I had a lot of friends that have served and they are not here today," said veteran Lathan Linton.
In Washington DC, there was a special ceremony to honor those who served in World War II.
President Barack Obama attended a ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery and urged the country to keep our vets in their thoughts to make sure they get the care and benefits they need.
"With the modern wars, people are starting to see that it's not fun. We protect this country and are getting disrespected. Now they are getting the respect," said Army veteran Ronald L. Miles.
Back in Baltimore, a ceremony in front of City Hall at the War Memorial thanked veterans for their commitment to defend our country.
"For some reason, it brought up a lot of emotions that I didn't realize I was going to have. It's a great day to be out here with this population of veterans," said James Miles, US Army.
With some 200,000 veterans returning to civilian life every year, the president is urging communities and businesses to hire vets as they fill job openings.
Several restaurants in our area are saying thank you by treating veterans to a free meal Wednesday.
