Vermont Pins 30th Straight Loss On Towson, 65-49
TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- Luke Apfeld scored 24 points in 22 minutes as Vermont defeated Towson 65-49 on Friday night.
The loss by the Tigers (0-11) was their 30th in a row, dating back to an overtime win over La Salle last season.
Apfeld, who made all 11 of his shots, got 14 of his points in the first half, when the Catamounts (6-7) took a 42-19 lead at the break, their largest of the game.
Vermont shot 53.3 percent (16 of 30) in the first half, including 6 of 11 on 3-pointers, while Towson shot 28.6 percent (6 of 21) and made no 3-pointers in three tries.
Brendan Bald added 15 points for the Catamounts and Brian Voelkel had 11 assists and eight rebounds. Deon Jones scored 11 points and Marcus Damas 10 for Towson, and Robert Nwankwo had nine points and nine rebounds.
