Va. Gov. Asks Airport Board To Reconsider Rail Vote
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Gov. Bob McDonnell is asking the board that oversees Washington Dulles International Airport to reconsider its vote to build an underground Metrorail station.
McDonnell's brief letter sent Monday to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority came a week after a joint letter was sent to the board by Fairfax and Loudoun counties and Virginia Secretary of Transportation Sean Connaughton.
The board earlier this month approved the project, rather than build an above-ground station that state and county officials say would save hundreds of millions of dollars in construction costs.
McDonnell says building the above-ground station would be a "more fiscally sound decision."
