Utilities Ask Customers To Cut Energy Use
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Utilities in Maryland and Washington are asking customers to reduce energy use as hot weather blankets the region.
BGE, which serves central Maryland, announced Wednesday that customers in its PeakRewards Air Conditioning and Electric Water Heat program will see a reduction in appliance running times.
PEPCO, which serves D.C. and some of its Maryland suburbs, says customers participating in its Energy Wise Rewards program will see their appliances cycled on and off until 8 p.m. Wednesday.
PJM Interconnection, the electricity grid operator for 13 states and the district, said Wednesday that electricity supplies remain tight.
The National Weather Service reports that temperatures in Washington and Baltimore hit 94 degrees about 3 p.m. Wednesday.
