Utah Doctor Facing Murder Charge Extradited To Maryland
ELKTON, Md. (AP) -- A Utah doctor facing a murder charge related to a botched second-trimester abortion has been extradited to Maryland.
An attorney for Dr. Nicola Riley says Riley was flown to Maryland Thursday and has an initial appearance and bail review scheduled for Friday morning in Elkton. Prosecutors did not return a message seeking comment.
Maryland authorities charged the 46-year-old physician in December with one count each of first-degree and second-degree felony murder, and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.
The charges come from an August 2010 procedure that left an 18-year-old woman with a ruptured uterus and injured bowel.
Prosecutors say Riley drove the woman to the hospital rather than call 911.
Riley has not yet entered a plea, although her defense attorneys have said nothing illegal occurred.
