USPS Announces New District Manager Of Maryland & Baltimore Postmaster
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- After months of mail delays in the Baltimore area, a new set of postal leaders have been appointed for the region.
Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger said on Tuesday that USPS notified him of a new postmaster of Baltimore, Eric Gilbert and a new district manager of Maryland, Lora McLucas.
Gilbert previously served as the postmaster of Baltimore in 2020.
Both changes are welcome news for the congressman.
"The new person that's coming in as district director is supposedly excellent and has worked in the post office throughout her whole career," said Ruppersberger. "She's a very buttoned-up leader and she's on top of issues. Hopefully, that will make a change."
Some Marylanders say they are hopeful that the new post office leaders will start to make changes to get their packages and letters delivered more promptly.
"Hopefully it does, hopefully they do have a new system or something," said De'jion Meredith, a Dundalk resident.
Congressman Ruppersberger also said that the USPS inspector general is auditing six local post offices where the mail delays have been particularly bad, in volume of complaints and of severity. Those include Dundalk, Essex, Rosedale, Parkville, Middle River and Loch Raven.
Results and recommendations from the audit are expected by next month.
