U.S. Rep. From Va. Seeks Bay Spending Checks
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) -- A Virginia congressman wants to track the public dollars being spent on the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay.
Under legislation introduced by U.S. Rep. Rob Wittman, the federal government and the six states within the bay watershed would be required to report expenditures, which would be detailed every year by the Office of Management and Budget.
According to the Daily press of Newport News, the federal government would be required to report spending of $100,000 or more, while states would have the report sums of $50,000 or more.
The Environmental Protection Agency has said the bay restoration is one of the biggest pollution-control efforts ever undertaken.
Wittman is a Republican whose district stretches from Hampton to Fredericksburg.
