UniverSoul Circus Brings Hip Hop Under The Big Top Back To Baltimore
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—It's dazzling and high-energy excitement and it's back in Baltimore. It's the always popular UniverSoul Circus.
Ron Matz reports its hip hop under the big top at Security Square Mall.
The Giang Brothers will amaze you. They are just one of the many exciting acts at the UniverSoul Circus. How do they do it?
"We've practiced this act for about eight years," said Quoc Co Giang. "Every day we practice the head-to-head."
Zeke is one of the ringmasters. He's been part of UniverSoul since it began 19 years ago. It's family entertainment.
"We started back in 1994," he said. "So we're knocking on the door of our 20th anniversary."
There's Onionhead the clown, Pampered Pooches, the Rough Riders and great music.
"Where else can you go and you have the whole family unit: your mamas, daddies, sons, daughters, aunts, uncles, grandma and grandchild, everybody under the big top," Zeke said.
The UniverSoul Circus was founded by Baltimorean Cedric Walker, and the performers come from all over the world.
The Giangs are from Vietnam.
"We go around the world picking out some of the most unique talent we can find, bring them back to the USA, put our urban style music to it, and voila with this light show and the sound, we come to party every day," Zeke said.
It's hip hop under the big top.
"I love Baltimore. Our first two years of the circus we were just in Atlanta. Then our founder Cedrick Walker said let me take this to the USA. One of the first four cities we played was Baltimore. We've been coming ever since," Zeke said.
The UniverSoul Circus will perform over 500 shows in 43 major cities this year. It will be at Security Square Mall through June 2.
