Switch Problem Disrupts Metro Service In D.C.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Metro says smoke from a switch problem near Union Station slowed the morning commute on the red line, but those delays are beginning to dissipate.
Metro spokesman Dan Stessel says sparking on the electrified third rail Friday morning led to smoke that caused the temporary evacuation of Union Station. Stessel says smoke was vented out of the station.
Trains that had been using one track between the Judiciary Square and New York Avenue stations are resuming normal operations, and are stopping again at Union Station.
