Under Armour Opens This Weekend In Harbor East
BALTIMORE (WJZ)--Baltimore's own Under Armour is headed to Harbor East. A brand new flagship store opens its doors this weekend.
Jessica Kartalija has details about the growth of the popular downtown area.
The energy of Under Armour hits Harbor East. An 8,000-square-foot store officially opens its doors on Saturday.
"It's going to be a frenzy. This is fantastic. It's the biggest presence of Under Armour footware, apparel, accessories anywhere in the world," said Henry Stafford, senior VP of apparel, accessories and outdoor.
Stafford says the store will be a model for international growth.
"It's more than just a store. It's a lab for us to learn but something great for Harbor East," Stafford said.
While some apparel is unique to Baltimore, their shoes are front and center, and an entire half of the store is just for women
"We are building an amazing women's business and we are showing that right when she walks into the door," Stafford said.
Adding to the store's creative vibe: a giant screen made up of 330,000 LED lights.
With a prime location right along the water, Under Armour hopes to gain even more international exposure.
"We are so pleased to have them here in Harbor East, and it solidifies Harbor East as a retail destination," said Megan McCloskey, Harbor East
The brand house as it will be known joins a long list of high end retailers who call Harbor East home
"We've had J. Crew, Anthropologie, Lululemon, MAC cosmetics, White House/Black Market and now Under Armour opening up within a year," said McCloskey, Harbor East marketing manager.
Most of the contractors are from Baltimore and the store's 25 employees are all local.
