It's the welcome home for the Big Ten ladies basketball champs.
"It was unbelievably exciting. We were cheering so loud, it was incredible," said Barbara Gold, fan. "And just watching the progression of them... We had gone to every other game as well."
The Lady Terps are welcomed by lines of fans inside the student union, as the girls sign autographs after their second Big Ten title in two years.
"It's awesome just to be able to be back here. Being at the Big Ten Tournament was an amazing experience. It was just cool to get back into a championship game and have the opportunity to bring it back to Maryland," said Malina Howard, Lady Terps center.
This past Sunday, the team sealed the deal, beating Michigan State. The welcome is overwhelming after a well-battled season.
"We take really great, tremendous pride representing the University here in Maryland," Lady Terps head coach Brenda Frese said. "And to be able to see all the hard work that our players have put in and obviously the success that they've had up to this point this season, it's great to be able to celebrate with everybody in our university and in our community."
"I think it's awesome. It brings the spotlight to Maryland," said Ian Mortiz, UMd. senior. "They're well deserving, they work hard and they had a great regular season before the end-of-the-season run."
Coach Frese says the next step is for the ladies to get some rest. They're going to work on their academics, and then, they're going to get ready for the NCAA Championship.
