UMd. Students Hold Town Hall Following Discovery Of Racist Email
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJZ)--Students at the University of Maryland meet to discuss an offensive email sent by a fraternity member.
Jessica Kartalija has the details on the town hall meeting.
The meeting comes after a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity wrote an email filled with racial slurs and alluding to raping women.
Days after a video went viral of the SAE fraternity members at the University of Oklahoma singing racist chant--a racist email from a University of Maryland fraternity member using slurs to describe black, Asian and Indian women, and it alluded to raping women during rush last year.
"Its not about us talking, its about you talking."

"We're thinking that maybe this is a broader systemic issue of race relations on college campuses across the nation," said one student.
Maryland's president says the vulgar language in the email expresses views that are reprehensible to our campus community. The university is investigating--and the member of Kappa Sigma has been suspended.
The fraternity says, "The language and views expressed in the email were inexcusable and are in stark contrast to the values of Kappa Sigma Fraternity."
At the town hall meeting, students say more should have been done to the predominantly white fraternity they say a black fraternity was treated very differently last year.
"We were threatened with cease and desist, which means our chapter at Maryland was threatened because of a tweet sent by one person," another student said.
National fraternity leaders have condemned the both cases. Sigma Alpha Epsilon closed its chapter at the University of Oklahoma.
The Office of Civil Rights and Sexual Misconduct at the university is also investigating the incident.
