UMd. Plans To Channel Fans' Spirit After Duke Game
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJZ) -- It's Maryland vs. Duke Wednesday night on the basketball court and that could mean dangerous student crowds at College Park.
Vic Carter reports the university wants to make sure celebrations stay safe this year.
Video sparked outrage after riots broke out following the Maryland/Duke game last March. Prince George's County officers beat a University of Maryland student. The attack is still under investigation by local police and the FBI.
This year, the university is trying to keep chaos like that from happening again.
Tuesday night, students held a prayer service. On Wednesday, the Student Government Association is organizing a pep rally and planning a bonfire after the game.
"I think the bonfire is a great idea," said sophomore Matthew Curley.
Prince George's County is putting an extra hundred officers on crowd control. That's on top of the campus police and state troopers that will also be on hand.
