UMD Lacrosse Player Charged With Sexual Assault At Zac Brown Band Concert
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJZ) -- A University of Maryland lacrosse player is behind bars, charged with sexual battery after a woman claims he fondled her at a concert.
Rochelle Ritchie has more on the charges.
The 49-year-old victim told police she was lying on the lawn when she was assaulted.
Benjamin Chisolm, 19, a University of Maryland lacrosse player from Davidsonville, is in a heap of trouble after being charged with aggravated sexual battery.
"Crazy to hear. I definitely didn't know about it," one student said.
According to police, a woman attending a concert at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow says she was assaulted by Chisolm.
"This guy comes running up and slides in right behind me like he was spooning me," the alleged victim said.
In a phone interview, the woman, identified only as Donna, says Chisolm then started touching her.
"He was grinding his bottom half up against my bottom half and he took his arm and put it around me and grabbed my breast," she said.
Chisolm was later detained by police for intoxication. It was then they also learned he was a suspect in the case.
News of Chisolm's arrest is now circulating across campus.
"I would never expect anything like that to happen from one of our students, somebody I would go to school with," one student said.
WJZ reached out to the University of Maryland for a statement. They did not return our phone calls, but on their Twitter page, they say:
"We are aware of a reported incident with a student-athlete. University of Maryland takes these matters seriously and will cooperate with authorities."
"I teach here and most of my student-athletes are excellent people, very good students," one teacher said.
Chisolm is now being held without bond. His trial date is set for July 17.
Chisolm is a freshman at the university.
