17 Taken To Hospital After Lab Experiment Fire In UMD Chemical, Nuclear Engineering Building
COLLEGE PARK, MD. (WJZ) — 17 people were taken to the hospital after a lab experiment resulted in a fire in the University of Maryland Chemical and Nuclear Engineering building.
Police and fire departments were on the scene as the building was evacuated after the incident, according to the University of Maryland Police Department.
The fire has been put out, and the building reopened around 4 p.m., UMD police said.
Four students, one contractor, one building employee, 8 Prince George's Fire Department personnel, two UMPD officers and one assistant fire marshal were taken to a local hospital for precautionary evaluation.
Police said people should avoid the area and follow police direction.
