UMBC Beats Binghamton 59-49, Locks Up 6th Seed
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Ryan Cook scored 24 points to help Maryland-Baltimore County defeat Binghamton 59-49 Sunday and lock up the No. 6 seed in the America East Conference tournament.
Chase Plummer, the Retrievers' second-leading scorer behind Cook, made just 3 of 14 shots but grabbed 12 rebounds. Brian Neller scored 17 for UMBC (7-22, 5-11).
Neller and Cook carried UMBC, shooting a combined 13 of 28 from the field with nine 3-pointers while the rest of the team shot 7 of 35. The pair teamed up to score 12 points during a 17-9 game-ending run that spanned just over 10 minutes.
Binghamton (3-26, 1-15) outshot UMBC 33 percent (19 of 56) to 31 percent (20 of 63) but committed 20 turnovers, including five over the final 7 minutes.
Jordan Reed, Binghamton's leading scorer, tallied 11 points of 3-of-12 shooting.
Binghamton, the eighth seed, will take on top-seeded Stony Brook in the quarterfinals.
