UM, State To Help Improve Prince George's Health Care
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- The feasibility of a new $600 million Prince George's County medical center will be studied by a state, university and county partnership.
Gov. Martin O'Malley announced Thursday that the state, county and Dimensions Healthcare System are partnering with the University of Maryland and the University of Maryland Medical System to strengthen health care in the county.
The governor's office says Prince George's Hospital Center in Cheverly is currently the only trauma center serving Southern Maryland, including Prince George's, Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary's counties. The partnership will study the feasibility of constructing a new medical center and health sciences campus. UMMS has completed an initial study that estimates the cost to be around $600 million.
