Tyler Wilson Dazzles As Orioles Defeat Red Sox 5-1
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Tyler Wilson pitches 8 scoreless innings as the Orioles defeat the Red Sox 5-1 and regain first place in the AL East.
The Orioles came into this series tied for first place with the Boston Red Sox. It was imperative for Baltimore to play well against Boston on the road in order to keep pace in the AL East.
Mission Accomplished.
Baltimore won two of three against Boston in this series and proved that the A.L. East may indeed have to run through Baltimore.
It didn't take long for the Orioles to make their mark in this one. Adam Jones starting things off in the top of the 3rd with a 2-run homer to left that made the game 2-0 in favor of Baltimore.
In the 4th, Jones made another dent on the scoreboard with a RBI double that brought in Jonathan Schoop to make it 3-0. A Chris Davis single and a Jonathan Schoop double would bring in two more to give Baltimore the 5-0 lead in the top of the 5th inning.
The Orioles would not score again for the rest of the game. They wouldn't have to thanks to the play of Tyler Wilson. Baltimore's defense alongside a great pitching performance kept Boston out of the scoreboard for the majority of the game. Wilson allowed only 3 hits and struck out 6 in 8 innings of work to keep this game out of reach for the Red Sox.
The Orioles return to Baltimore on Friday to begin a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays with RHP Mike Wright (3-3 5.31 ERA) on the mound.
