Towson two-alarm fire leaves man dead, three children injured
BALTIMORE - A Monday morning fire in Towson left a man dead and four other people injured, including three children.
Questions remain regarding the cause of the fire shortly after midnight at the Loch Raven Village Apartments on Greenway Road.
When firefighters arrived, people were trapped inside a burning second-floor apartment, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department.
Firefighters immediately went into search and rescue mode.
"I heard screaming at around midnight," said Amanda Porter, a neighbor. "There (were) what I assume were residents right outside screaming. I heard somebody yelling a name, 'Jump, jump, jump.'"
A 43-year-old man was pulled out through a window and was taken to a hospital where he died. A 43-year-old woman was also taken to the hospital, along with three children -- a 5-year-old, a 4-year-old and an infant.
Neighbors told WJZ they are concerned about the young children who were caught in the fire.
"I know there's lots of families with small kids in there," Porter said. "I was thinking, like, are the kids OK? I'm a former teacher so thinking school started today, this is a really bad start to the year."
The American Red Cross is assisting a family of three impacted by the fire.
Meanwhile, neighbors say it may be a while before things go back to normal in the community.
"Currently we've been without any power, any water," a neighbor said. "We're thinking about going to a nearby friend's house."
Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire.
