Firebomb Blamed For Northeast Baltimore Apartment Fire
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Firebombs thrown into the windows of innocent people. The latest attack sent several to the hospital. Now neighbors in Northeast Baltimore fear they could be next.
Kai Jackson has more on the investigation.
Police don't know the reason for the firebombing. They're looking for suspects in hopes of making an arrest.
The fire at the Parkside Garden Apartments has been ruled a firebombing by investigators, who say it started around 4 a.m. Wednesday in the 5000-block of Lodestone Way in Northeast Baltimore.
"Anyone who would firebomb a house where they could reasonably believe people were sleeping is dangerous and they definitely had an intent to kill," said Baltimore Fire Department Deputy Chief Ray O'Brocki.
The blaze was so intense two people had to jump to safety from a second story window. Seven people were hurt and a dozen families were displaced by the fire.
Baltimore City Councilman Brandon Scott is furious.
"This is an unacceptable tragedy and stuff that we don't stand for here in Northeast Baltimore," Scott said.
"Get my kids out. That was my first thing, getting them out, 'cause the smoke started coming through the creases of the door," said resident Felicia Estep.
Investigators believe the same person tried to start a second fire using a similar device at a complex in the 4400-block of Bowley's Lane. Investigators say the calls came in minutes apart, though police don't believe either was a targeted attack.
"I actually am worried and I'm thinking I'm gonna plan on moving pretty soon," said resident Kayla Todd.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
