Tropical System May Bring Rain To Md. Early Next Week
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Some tropical weather could be heading our way.
Meteorologist Tim Williams reports.
Tropical Storm Karen has formed in the Gulf of Mexico. The U.S. National Hurricane Center projection puts the storm in the form of a tropical depression in Maryland by Tuesday.
There is certainly the possibility that moisture from TS Karen will merge with a cold front currently moving across the Midwest and enhance the rainfall Monday into Monday night.
Medium-range models Friday started to slow the eastward progression of the cold front and the latest runs are no different. The warm front pushes north starting Sunday night as southerly flow increases in response to the approaching cold front and associated upper-level low. It will be a warm and humid day Monday and there can be spotty showers around. However, most hours of the day Monday will be dry. In fact, a bulk of the precipitation will not arrive until Monday night. Then there is the influence of the moisture from Karen. There is no reason at this point to not mention the possibility of heavy rainfall--an inch, perhaps two.
On Monday, mostly dry with highs in the mid 70s.
On Monday night, showers are likely. Lows are in the upper 50s. The chance of rain is 70 percent.
Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers. Highs will be in the lower 70s. Tuesday night it will be mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers and lows in the upper 50s.
