Trooper Pepper-Sprayed, Shot Family Dog Dead As It Attacked Woman
CENTREVILLE, Md. (WJZ ) -- A Maryland state trooper pepper-sprayed and then fatally shot a family dog as it attacked a woman.
Just after 8 a.m. Sunday, TFC Robert Isabelle was called to a home near Centreville. When he arrived at the front door, he could see and hear two dogs fighting inside the residence. He observed a 64-year-old woman trying to break up the fight between the dogs.
The aggressor dog, a full-grown pit bull mix, had already bitten the woman.
Trooper Isabelle entered the home and used pepper spray on the dog in an attempt to end the assault, which caused the dog to back away. Moments later, the dog aggressively charged toward the woman in what appeared to be an attempt to attack her again.
Trooper Isabelle then pulled out his department-issued .40 caliber pistol and fatally shot the dog when it was about three feet from the woman.
Both dogs are believed to have lived at the home with the victim, her daughter and son-in-law. The pit bull mix belonged to the victim's son-in-law, who was not there at the time of the incident, but returned a short time later.
The victim sustained no further injury. The trooper was not injured and the second dog involved, which presented no threat, was not injured by the trooper's actions. The victim's daughter witnessed the incident, but was not injured.
