Trooper Helps With Flat Tire, Finds Marijuana
ELKTON, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State police say a trooper who stopped to help two motorists with a flat tire found more than $300,000 worth of marijuana in the vehicle.
It happened about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 95 in Cecil County. Authorities say the trooper stopped to help a disabled pickup truck with a flat tire on an exit ramp.
Police say after talking with the two men changing the tire, the trooper became suspicious and asked to search the truck. Officials say he was given permission and found 67 pounds of marijuana in the enclosed truck bed.
Fernando Gonzalez, 45, of Miami and Juan Gomez Romero, 51, of Homestead, Fla., have been charged with numerous drug offenses.
