Trial For Anne Arundel County Executive Reset
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The trial of Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold has been rescheduled for January 2013.
The date was reset Friday, and the trial will now begin Jan. 16. The trial had been scheduled to begin Sept. 4.
Earlier this week, however, Leopold's attorney asked that the trial be postponed. Attorney Bruce Marcus cited the large volume of information gathered in the case by prosecutors and the complexity of the case as reasons for needing more time to prepare.
Leopold was indicted in March for allegedly misusing his police detail for personal and political gain. His trial is expected to last about two weeks.
The 69-year-old Republican has denied any wrongdoing.
