Trey Mancini Says 'Couldn't Imagine A Better Clubhouse' Than Orioles
Trey Mancini joined Bob Haynie and Terry Ford to talk about his strong rookie season as a Baltimore Oriole.
Mancini talked about the adjustments he had to make transitioning from the minors to the big leagues and how he's learning the outfield. So what's the hardest thing to get used to? Mancini commented, "I would say it's knowing who the pitchers are, making adjustments day-to-day on who's throwing to you. As April went on, pitchers really adjusted and I started to get exposed a little bit."
He may be "the new guy" but he is also a very important part of the lineup. He's taken over first base duties while Chris Davis is out with a strained oblique, helped the Orioles win multiple games with his home runs and became the first Orioles player to hit a pinch-hit home run in the ninth inning or later and then homer again in the same game.
Mancini also said he "couldn't imagine a better group of people to get acquainted in a major league setting than this clubhouse. It's been incredible.""
As Ford points out, he wasn't well known when he was selected in the eighth round of the 2013 MLB Draft as a Notre Dame senior. Mancini says he has a bit of a chip on his shoulder after being considered a "non-athletic, uncoordinated" prospect, but now the fans are chanting his name. He said, "I didn't lose sleep over it by any means. I knew if I hit and played good defense that I would make the major leagues."
