Trax On Wax In Catonsville Offers Vintage Holiday Gifts
CATONSVILLE, Md. (WJZ)— If you're looking for an unusual gift for someone, you might want to head to Catonsville. It's the home of a popular store that sells record albums and a whole lot more.
Ron Matz takes a spin out to Frederick Road for some last-minute holiday shopping.
Christmas in Catonsville at Trax on Wax. They've got turntables and more than 20,000 albums.
"Trax on Wax is a true record store, a throwback to the 70s. We sell vinyl. We sell everything the old record stores used to sell, including posters and T-shirts and turntables," said Gary Gebler, Trax on Wax.
There are gifts galore for the holidays, including Taylor Swift's latest album and the Beatles collection on vinyl.
"We've been open three and a half years," Gebler said. "It has been fantastic. We've gotten support from the community and the surrounding states, the whole mid-Atlantic region."
There are records re-cycled into bowls, a framed album cover and the ILP.
"We have a lot of great stuff for the holidays," Gebler said. "The Beatles just re-issued their entire catalog on 180 gram stereo. It's re-mastered, and it sounds fantastic. You can't beat it."
There are other gifts.
"A very thoughtful gift is the framed album cover," he said. "I just happened to pick Frank Sinatra 'Nice And Easy,' but you can pick whatever you want. It's a very good gift."
Now this is a great gift: Baltimore Sounds is an illustrated encyclopedia of Baltimore area pop musicians, covering five decades. Remember Paper Cup, Alana Shor, Climb A Donkey. There's The Softtones and those famous Baltimore clubs.
"The Baltimore Sounds book is great," Gebler said. "You can't put it down. Anybody who played in a band or who had anything to do with music in Baltimore is in this book. It covers five decades. You say 'I knew that guy. I remember that band. I remember that place.' It's amazing, and it's just 30 bucks."
It's a Catonsville treasure and your vinyl destination.
"A lot of teens and a lot of college people are getting back to the experience of listening to records the way it was intended to be," Gebler said.
