Travis Thomas: Women Making An Impact Working In Sports
Life is all about evolving. I remember when I was a youngster (teenage, college years) I always wanted a girlfriend who liked sports. That was like a unicorn at that time, no girls liked sports, or so I thought. Even the ones who PLAYED sports, didn't really watch or follow them like I did. Then I evolved, I got a job in the industry and realized, not only do they exist, but a lot of them know more than the fellas. In fact, throughout my career, I've only had a female supervisor once. It was my most productive, and most creative I've ever been in my whole career. Not only that, but I valued the team more. It's taken me time, maturity, and more experience to realize why. But here's my theory: With Men, everything is about Alpha, and Ego. With Women, they care more about the communication that's needed, and the process of achievement. When a powerful man accomplishes something, HE did it. When a powerful woman accomplishes something, WE did it. That makes for a more rewarding, and team oriented work place. This theory of mine has led me to reach out to one of the most successful up and coming Women in the Sports Media Industry today, Glendalyn Junio. Glendalyn is a successful Sports Marketer as well as President of WISE DC. Glendalyn shares her thoughts on the success of Becky Hammon and other Female Coaches, what WISE DC is all about, and even offers me some advice on gaining more Female Fans!
