Train Service Ramping Up To Take Crowds To National Mall
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Metro is increasing train service to help people get to the National Mall to see the fireworks.
Metro says trains are running on a Saturday schedule, but starting at about 2 p.m. train service is gradually ramping up to near rush-hour service levels before and after the fireworks around 9 p.m. Metro says bicycles and large coolers are not permitted on trains because of large expected crowds.
There is free parking at all Metro-operated facilities, and off-peak fares are in effect Saturday.
The rail system will be open until 3 a.m. and peak fares will go into effect after midnight.
Metrobus is running on a Saturday schedule, and riders can expect detours around the National Mall.
