Towson University Police Warn Students Of Woman Looking For A Date For Her Son
TOWSON, Md. (WJZ) — Towson University Police are asking the community to be on the lookout for a woman reportedly trying to find a date for her son.
It happened enough times for police to have alerted the entire campus community.
The advisory, featuring a couple of pictures captured from security cameras, was the talk of cameras Monday.
Students WJZ's George Solis spoke with were grateful to see how proactive the university has been.
The reviews are mixed.
"Some people thought it was kinda sweet and people thought it was creepy," said student Nicole Cosentino.
Reactions centered on what the woman had reportedly been doing on the university campus.
In a word- she's been playing matchmaker.
"I think she had the best of intentions," said Cosentino. "She did."
Campus police put ou surveillance images of the woman, asking if someone would date her son.
When asked if it was his mom trying to get him a date, student Austin Ryan said "Oh, I would probably disown her. Not really but I would just be embarrassed."
According to the University Police Department, several students began complaining that a 50-or-so-year-old woman was stopping them near the Cook Library and the Center for the Arts, showing a picture of the potential suitor on her phone.
"I guess it would just be weird to me to have her ask me something like that," said sophomore Chandler Stachowski. "I would probably deny her and then maybe tell someone about it seeing as how it's not something you hear every day."
While some clearly found the whole thing funny, authorities weren't taking any chances, putting out an alert campus-wide t to heighten awareness.
"I don't know," said Fola Black, a junior. "I don't know. I've never seen that in my life."
And while most don't believe this mom meant any harm, they do think that she should stop.
"I would just deny that that's my mom," said Cosentino.
At least for her son's sake.
