Towson University Holds Vigil For 2 Students Who Died Last Weekend
TOWSON, Md. (WJZ)—A community comes together. Towson University mourns the death of two students, including one killed in a hit-and-run crash.
Meghan McCorkell has more on this campus tragedy.
A sea of tiny lights flicker for lives lost too soon. Towson University junior Ryan Bailey, 20, was killed early Saturday morning in a hit-and-run accident.
"He was walking at the wrong place at the wrong time. It doesn't help that we don't know who it is," said Bruce Blackwell, Bailey's fraternity brother.
Bailey was near York Road at Washington Avenue when he was struck by an older model silver or white boxy car. The driver just kept going.
The campus is also reeling from another student death over the weekend. Timothy Coyer, 27, was found dead inside his apartment Saturday afternoon.
Investigators are still trying to determine how he died but say it is not considered suspicious.
"He was the most outgoing person that honestly you would ever meet. He touched everyone he talked to," said Ryan Klock, fraternity brother.
Losing two students in just one day is an unprecedented heartbreak.
"Any student death is a tragedy, but to have two students die in one day has just been overwhelming," said Teri Hall, associate vice president of campus life.
"What we can do is carry them in our hearts as we move forward on our lives of love," said Maravene Loeschke, Towson University president.
Now the campus comes together to figure out how to move on.
A $2000 reward is being offered for any information leading to an arrest in the hit-and-run accident.
The Towson University Counseling Center has offered grief counselors to help students with the loss.
