Towson knocked out of CAA Tournament with 61-56 loss to Charleston
WASHINGTON (AP) — Reyne Smith scored 16 points and top-seeded Charleston closed on a 13-1 run to get past No. 5 seed Towson 61-56 on Monday night in the semifinals of the Coastal Athletic Association Tournament.
It was the ninth victory in a row for the Cougars, who will battle for their second straight CAA title on Tuesday.
Smith also contributed five rebounds for the Cougars (26-7). Bryce Butler shot 5 of 9 from the field and 2 for 3 from the line to add 13 points. Frankie Policelli shot 3 for 7 (1 for 5 from 3-point range) and 3 of 4 from the free-throw line to finish with 10 points.
The Tigers (20-14) were led in scoring by Tyler Tejada, who finished with 16 points. Charles Thompson added 14 points, six rebounds and three blocks for Towson. Dylan Williamson finished with 13 points.
Smith scored 11 points in the first half for Charleston, who led 31-30 at halftime. Kobe Rodgers put up nine points in the second half.
