Towson Defeats James Madison 80-71
TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- Rafriel Guthrie scored 17 points and Jerrelle Benimon recorded his nation-leading 15th double-double of the season as Towson beat defending Colonial Athletic Association Champion James Madison 80-71 on Tuesday.
Benimon finished with 16 points and 15 rebounds, after entering the game ranked fourth in the country in rebounding at 11.3 per game.
Towson (15-8, 6-2) won its third straight game and eighth of its last 10.
Andre Nation scored 20 points for James Madison (8-15, 3-6), while Ron Curry had 13 and Charles Cooke 10.
Towson ended the first half on a 17-2 run, with 3-pointers by Marquis Marshall and Mike Burwell, and led 38-25 at the break. James Madison went scoreless for more than 4 minutes until Andre Nation's dunk with 1:55 remaining.
Back-to-back 3-pointers by Four McGlynn and Guthrie extended Towson's lead to 57-37 with 14:08 remaining.
